While stepping more and more into being a songwriter and poet, I have always seemed to find myself somewhere not sleeping— kept awake and alive by my fascination to put thoughts and experiences into words in a way that they may not have been heard before. This is where the idea for this series came about. Noticing that around 2 AM, vulnerability and honesty sets in — and this is the world we enter called “Somewhere Not Sleeping.” Don’t get me wrong, rest is crucial… but so is good art.
“Somewhere Not Sleeping” is a visual acoustic series I created for a more personalized experience to showcase my music. I started to realize that a majority of the songs that I work on deserved a more intimate performance and delivery. This series is a combination of acoustic versions of previously released songs as well as brand new ones. I am so thankful to be producing all of my own music now— and in that, I noticed that certain songs didn’t need too much more— and I wanted to give people a deeper look inside of my songwriting process. The raw versions felt better. They felt real. Necessary.
Each season of “Somewhere Not Sleeping” will consist of new visual and audio releases every 2 weeks, in which I was able to collaborate with some AMAZING artists, videographers, and graphic designers that all helped this vision come to life. In between these sessions, definitely expect new bops that will continue to fuel the party and your soul. I hope you will love and appreciate every release for its own mood and story. A mirror.

All my love, C

Session 1 - Consider Me

Comparable to Daniel Caesar & HER's "Best Part", I wrote “Consider Me" was on a trip to Atlanta, where I met a collective of inspiring artists. The song was inspired by these two guitar chords that I had been sitting on for a while. I played it in a bossa nova style, envisioning a hip hop rhythmic groove underneath. The lyrics describe not knowing where you stand with someone, but making your intentions known. There's a smooth blend of melodic flows and balance of energy in the contrast between my voice and NovaNotion’s.

Session 2 - Feel (Acoustic)

I initially wrote “Feel” on acoustic guitar… then the fully produced version came out to be more on the Electro-Pop side. I didn’t think I could love the song more until I moved it over to the piano. I knew that the "Somewhere Not Sleeping" version of this song had to be special. Intimate. The acoustic version of "Feel" is a vulnerable and raw delivery of a song that reminds you that you have other options than to run away from something good. I hope people will connect with it in a different way each time, just as much as I do every time I sing it it.

Session 3 - Letting Me Down

“Letting Me Down” is the most gentle way I’ve spoken to myself in a while. These are the words I would say to me if I was able step outside of myself as I watch myself going through a difficult time. This song was built to soothe, nurture, and remind. When collaborating with Guatavoe on guitar, I knew this would be the kind of song to close your eyes to on a plane or stare out the window as it rains. This is a blend of acoustic R&B and session 3 of my visual series, "somewhere not sleeping."

Session 4 - If You

“If You” is an emotional pop ballad, similar to the vibe and style of an infamous JULIA MICHAELS duet with acts such as Lauv, JP Saxe, Niall Horan, or James Bay.. This collaboration hosts vulnerable and honest lyrics as well as melodic movement that feels raw and will stick with you. We initially had heavy production to start off, then ended up stripping it down to the piano. It felt so much better. This is the fourth acoustic visual as a part of my series, "Somewhere Not Sleeping."

Session 5 - Worth It

"Worth It" is an ambient Lo-Fi record with R&B undertones. The lyrics came reflect on different perspectives in which the mind battles and tugs at the heart. Whereas in the end, the suffering ends up being worth it in realizing that you yourself are. It's meant to uplift, relate to, and support the listener. I collaborated with Andrew Amengor, an incredible Jazz pianist, to attain the smooth neo-soul keys sound.
